Professional Goals
I want to do work that matters and that makes a difference when it comes to my true passion, habitat and wildlife conservation. In 2022, Dr. Frauke Bagusche's book "The Blue Wonder" made such an impression on me that I reached out to her and we corresponded about the importance of spreading the word about what we can all do to protect our oceans. That experience, combined with a talk I attended last fall at the New England Aquarium with Dr. Sylvia Earle about why we should all care about the weird, wild, and wonderful depths of the sea, sparked me to reconsider how I've been using my storytelling and project management skills. I'm never happier than when I'm learning about, discussing, or simply standing near the ocean, wild bird habitat, or other wild places. Educating people about space, natural science, and the species that call our planet home through engaging storytelling is the best way to ensure they care about their continued survival. I want to use my storytelling skills to contribute to a legacy of conservation and education through working in communications, copywriting, or managed social media for oceanic or avian conservation groups.
Personal Goals
Personally, I’m looking forward to my first trip to Europe in August 2023 with my brother. I earned my NAUI SCUBA certification 2023 and plan to spend time diving in the future, including exploring the shipwrecks in Lake Champlain’s Underwater Preserves in Vermont, the reefs in Moorea, and Blue Hole in Belize, where I grew up visiting to snorkel, to start with. Other goals include earning a small-craft pilot’s license and flying for fun, visiting Uganda to see shoebill storks in the wild, publishing my second novel, visiting the Pacific Northwest to take in the area’s incredible natural beauty (OK, and also to see Forks, Washington), visiting Iceland again for another backpacking and photography trip, and eventually finding the perfect house. I also recently started a Twitter account promoting shoebill stork conservation and hope to see it grow.
